Product Description

As mentioned under vests, densely knitted socks, quite possibly layered over each other, is how people here stayed alive through harsh winters.  Made from handspun wool, the knitting, darning, unravelling (when past darning) and re-knitting of these socks is what kept generations of women here busy, dem-baba-dem (for time beyond imagining).

They ARE scratchy, but worn over a pair of thin socks, these things will keep you warm until the end of time.  And possibly beyond.

According to Edith Durham, handmade socks (the fancier the better) were also legitimate fodder for ending feuds.
